After years of holidays in Great Britain and the birth of our son York (named after the city), in 2009 we decided to leave Holland and cross the channel to start a new life. We often dreamed about a business involving art & nature. Coming to North Yorkshire made our dream clearer and our idea for Dutch house was born in 2010.
Sjaak Kastelijn started as gardens manager for the Museum Gardens in York. He has a passion for plants and a keen interest in wild meadows and a more naturalistic approach to gardening. In April 2012 he left the museum gardens to focus completely on Dutch house Wildlife garden.
Cecile Creemers is Kunsthuis Gallery’s owner and curator. She is passionate about art, curating and creativity. Born and raised in The Netherlands, Cecile established a career as a graphic designer who was often involved in teaching art classes, curating exhibitions and organising creative breaks. After having relocated to the scenic village of Crayke in Yorkshire, Kunsthuis Gallery was soon to be established.
York Kastelijn was born in Holland in 2007, but has fitted in with British (North Yorkshire) life very well. He is bi-lingual and has a creative mind and a great love for the outdoors.
Robbie and Romeo are our 2 much loved rescue dogs. They love living in the country side and go on long walks or go for a little swim in the river Foss.
